The Alzheimer's Memory Loss Crisis

Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that destroys your memories and your very identity. The scary thing is how common it is.

1 out of 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Unfortunately, as the population ages and lives longer, the problem is only getting worse. The chances of getting Alzheimer's grows exponentially as you age.

"Alzheimer's is the biggest epidemic, skyrocketing at a rate you rarely see in chronic disease." says the Alzheimer's Association.

If that’s not bad enough, Alzheimer's is also the world's most expensive disease. That is because it robs you of your independence and your ability to even do basic things. The average cost of nursing home care in the U.S. runs over $8000/mo (much higher in states like CA, NY, FL).

By mid-century, Alzheimer's will cost Americans 1.1 trillion dollars, equal to the entire National Defense Budget.

This coupled with with the emotional toll of seeing the person they love slip away and lose themselves causes an incredible financial and emotional burden for the families of Alzheimer’s victims.

Everyone forgets things once in a while. But if you are concerned with your memory or Alzheimer's disease, ask about our Free Memory Screening and Brain Guard Memory Boost programs.  Action Therapy offers clinically proven interventions that can delay or prevent age related memory loss and Alzheimer's disease.
“Alzheimer's disease is often called a family disease, because the chronic stress of watching a loved one slowly decline affects everyone,”... REPORTS THE FAMILY CAREGIVER ALLIANCE. ... IN MANY WAYS, THE EFFECTS OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE ON THE FAMILY CAN BE AS DEVASTATING AS ITS EFFECTS ON THE PATIENT.

April 2017 issue of Scientific American summarizes the results of the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER).
The control group (that did not receive the beneficial treatment and guidance that the treatment group did) showed a 30% higher risk of cognitive decline.

A Rare Success Against Alzheimer's

This was the title of the original article that was featured as the front page cover story of the April 2017 issue of Scientific American. The article summarized a double blind clinical trial, called the FINGER study.

Over two years, 1260 men and women between the ages of 60 and 77 participated in the trial.  Half were randomly assigned to a treatment group and the other half to a control group.  The treatment group were directed to follow a specific regimen while the control group received only basic health advice.

After over  200 experimental drugs had failed over the last 30 years, scientists and researchers finally discovered something that actually works!

The trial produced significant positive results for the treatment group and at last showed us a way to fight against memory loss and Alzheimer’s.
The results in the graph to below show that on average the treatment group benefited 25 percent more than did controls (in cognitive performance).

In addition, the treatment group logged an  83 percent improvement  over the control group in executive function (focusing, planning, completing tasks), a 150 percent better score in processing speed (time required to perform mental tasks) and a 40 percent performance increase in complex memory tasks (remembering long lists).

How FINGER Succeeded Against Memory Loss & Alzheimer's

Participants of the FINGER trial treatment group were directed to follow a specific regimen of diet, cognitive training, and physical exercise. During the two years they intermittently saw a nurse or doctor to check on their health, progress, and how well they were able to follow recommendations.  Not only did the results of the trial give us a rare success against memory loss and Alzheimer's, it proved that a comprehensive program of lifestyle changes is practical even later in life.

FINGER pointed us in the right direction...
But now we must take action.  Why the urgency?  Because Alzheimer’s begins roughly 20 years before symptoms (such as memory lapses and confusion) become obvious. Remember, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s. But the earlier you act, the better your chances of delaying or preventing it.
